Baccarat Online

Baccarat was played traditionally by the Aristocracy in French Casinos in the 40's and 50's. It is played around the world with rules varying little but often with different names such as Chemin de Fer and Punto Blanco. Baccarat is purely a game of luck and no skill is required.

Baccarat is played on a green baize table with positions for each player in this case fifteen. The game is run by Baccarat Dealers and Croupiers.

The aim of Baccarat is to have a hand of a pip count ( a point) as close to nine as possible but without going over.

Aces count as one.

Picture cards count as ten

The value of the cards in Baccarat are added together but only the last digit of the number is important. Thus a 4 and an Ace are five and a King and a 6 are 6.

Baccarat in Play

Between six and eight packs of cards are shuffled by the Baccarat dealers and Croupier and a marker card is placed towards the back of the deck in the shoe to give warning to the Croupier that the cards are running out.

There are only two hands dealt in Baccarat the player's and the dealer's. Sometimes there is a side bet between players on a draw. There is a small area in the middle of the Baccarat table's layout for tie bets.

Players place bets on either the Player or Banker in the boxes in front of them on the Baccarat Table. Some tables are marked as Punto for player and Banko for bank.

Each player in turn is allowed to play the Banker's hand whilst a Croupier plays the Player's hand thus in Baccarat the normal situation in Casino card games is reversed.

To begin the Baccarat game Player One is offered the chance to play the Bankers hand but he can decline should he wish to do so. and the shoe is passed to the next player. This movement of the shoe around the table looks a bit like a train which gave rise to the Chemin de Fer name for Baccarat.

The Player acting as Dealer gives a card face down to the Croupier then to himself and another face down to each.

Both Player and Croupier look at their cards and if they have a point of 8 or 9 they show their cards. These are called naturals in Baccarat and win automatically 9's beating 8's. If there is a tie players retain there bets.

If neither have a natural they place their cards face down and the Croupier acts first, if he has 0 to 5 he draws another card from the Player acting as Dealer but if he has 6 or 7 he stands. Drawn cards are now dealt face up.

The Player acting as dealer now plays. If he has 0 to 5 he draws another card if the Croupier stood without drawing a third card he will stand otherwise he will draw another card with a point of 6. If he has a point of 7 he will stand in any case.

If the player gets the third card then the banker draws a third card according to the following Baccarat Card Drawing rules:

  • Banker has total of 0, 1, 2: Banker always draws a third card.

  • Banker has total of 3: Banker draws if Player's Third Card is 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-9-0 (not 8)

  • Banker has total of 4: Banker draws if Player's Third Card is 2-3-4-5-6-7

  • Banker has total of 5: Banker draws if Player's Third Card is 4-5-6-7

  • Banker has total of 6: Banker draws if Player's Third Card is of 6-7

  • Banker has total of 7: Banker always stands.

You can use the following table to determine if the Banker hits or stands if the Player has drawn a card.

H - hit, S - stand.

Once the final cards are dealt, the score of the player and dealer are compared. The winning hand is the one nearest to 9 but without exceeding it.

If the player wins his backers are paid out at even money. If the banker wins his backers are paid at 19 to 20 or at 95% to offset the advantage of playing second. The Baccarat Banker does have an advantage but only of around 1.34% so the 5% swing in odds is excessive and gives the Casino's a 1.2% advantage for itself. Backing the Bank is slightly better than backing the Player.

Bets on Tie's are paid at 8 to 1 but since the true odds are nearer to 19 to 2 , the Casino's advantage is around 14%.

As said earlier Baccarat is not considered to be a game of skill but of chance alone whatever you do don't bet on a tie the odds are poor.

Gamguru's Windows Casino has an excellent version of Online Baccarat in both a Single Player Online Baccarat Mode and a Multiplayer Baccarat Mode.

The Online Baccarat Software graphics are stunning and there is a play for fun setting as well as a play for money one.
